Greetings again! I was long overdue for some self care and spoiling myself, thus it was time for a kava session! I procured the latest batch of Tongan Family Reserve, fired up the record player and now currently on cloud 9! This is extremely high quality kava! The taste is complex layers of earth, pepper, bitter cashew and umami…yet smooth and enjoyable. The level of mouth numbing is indicative of the oncoming waves of contentment and serenity about to wash over the drinker. The effects came on quickly, smoothly climbing to a plateau of calm awareness of all the positivity and potential of the world. I am fully satisfied again with TKR’s fine kava offerings. A big thanks and appreciation goes out to the farmers and workers who produce this kava, and the folks at TKR who make it available for us! Bula! Fantastic product. Worth every penny

I usually make a cup of tea with it after supper, but I always leave the bag immersed in some of the tea overnight and I give it a squeeze the next day. I have made tinctures with it before. It freezes your mouth like a certain other product but it relaxes me and like the tea, helps me sleep at night. Next I'm thinking about making a linoment and adding Kava as an analgesic for external wounds. This latest stuff is right up there with my previous orders. Cheers,

To start off, the short version: if you already know and like (or love) kava kava, you will definitely appreciate this product, and likely others from this site. I actually received a vanuatu after communicating with the owner that I was looking for something for night time, and he kindly found something appropriate for me, so this is not a good review of Tongan kava. This is seriously potent and ceremonial stuff! I've had kava for years, usually at the end of a long night to wide down, almost always brewed in a french press, or even ground up and simmered (Apparently that's a big no no!!). Always from wild/organic reputable sources, but the effects were always mild, like a strong camomile. I'm not sure kava itself is a "fit" for my body / temperament or it'd be a definite 5-starts just for product quality. I wanted to have a few bowls before reviewing. The kava from kava roots floored me the first time I had it. The recommended dose was 1/2-cup, and I had less than half that amount. Luckily I prepared a cozy mat with some blanket, candles and nice music, because within 15 minutes I was completely euphoric and in an altered state. Almost like coming up on a psychedelic but much more clear and still 100% in "this reality" (physically). Emotionally / mentally I was very energized and full of ideas for future connections and activities to share with others, things to create. Physically, standing was not something i wanted to be doing for 1–2 hours lol. Since that first night, I've had 1/4-cup (similar to the first time, but this time I was a bit anxious and restless, also), 1/8-cup (mildly calming, relaxing, nice, didn't put me to sleep nor impair me in any way), and most recently close to the 1/2-cup recommended dose (the euphoria / strength was actually less than my first 1/4-cup bowl, still powerful and euphoric, and also anxious / restless — I definitely had a bit of a hangover the following morning). I'd like to try it again with a close friend or loved one and think that would be a really lovely experience. Overall, the euphoria seemed to really pull me into my head, and moving/dancing/stretchy was not really accessible for at least an hour if not two. A different type might be more body-focused for me to try. Definitely special stuff, and if you order it I hope it suits you a bit better than it did me!

Excellent Kava in taste and effect. It is strong but without nausea. It’s my new favorite. The only negative is the cost and time it takes to ship but understood since it ships from Canada.

Very feel-good kava! It was my first time making it myself and it turned out awesome! My wife added a little chocolate syrup and milk to it and really enhanced the taste!

This is my first time trying Kava and it didn't disappoint. I found out about it online was interested in the effects it produces. I mushed it around in a cloth for a good 15 minutes and the effects hit soon after. Great product!

I'm new to Kava and this was too strong. I feel this product might be more enjoyable once my body grows a tolerance. But I felt too euphoric. It almost felt like MDMA. But in a strange way. I was very emotional. Definitely did not have this reaction to other Kavas. I actually stopped drinking Kava all together after this. Very very strong stuff. Even at lower doses. Didn't like it. Super uncomfortable feeling.

Excellent Kava, very heady and euphoric which is exactly what I wanted. 2 tablespoons in 2 Alu balls is perfect. So glad it ships from Canada but wish it was priced in Canadian dollars. Will be ordering more for sure!

Great stuff, very potent and very smooth feeling and clean feeling. Love it. Not quite as sleepy as I like but I will try a heavier variety next time around. Hughly reccomend. Great after work kava for me. Nothing beats coming home after a long day of working construction to some delicious potent euphoria inducing/muscle relaxing kava!

I've tried lots of kava, and this product is fabulous. It's processed very fine, almost microionized, so you get the benefits of that fine processing when you're preparing your kava.

I have had this a couple times, it is smooth but does not do a thing for me! I have had different kavas that totally put me in that "space"

My experience with Tongan Family Reserve is a good one, I read a lot of reviews and I decided this one is every ones favorite. As I tried this batch I had shared with family, afterward I was told that my family members whole mouth was extremely numb. I had consumed the half pound in less than a week with no tolerance, this kava however had given me boosted effects every time I continued through the batch. Unlike some kava's that take getting used to. This kava is very forgiving, and does not make me feel many negative side effects of having too much. This kava is about as good as it gets from a taste standpoint. It kneads very nicely, also. Within 5 minutes of my first large shell, I was feeling happy, relaxed and social. After a few shells, I was melted to my sofa and enjoying re-watching The Wire. Great stuff!!

Well, let me say it ........"The Worlds Best" Kava !!!!!!!!!!! It's not cheap, but worth it by far. Better than Smoke; better than Drink. I'll get more !

This is my second "batch" of Tongan Family Reserve, and good kava god, I believe this offering is even more potent than the first! Did a traditional prep with 4 tbsps to 2 cups of water, and getting three decent washes from that. It was POTENT! Felt it the next day and probably made the mistake of mixing up another shell or two and felt - I guess, my first truly krunked experience. I did not function well that day. If all that needed to be done was to sit back and relax, that would have been fine, but I had a toddler to watch! Thankfully he was into just playing with water and water balloons which I was able to handle without too much trouble! Anyway, despite probably partaking in too much, I can confirm this kava is amazing! Starts off with a definite headiness and fades into a heavy relaxation. Great tasting too, smooth on the palette, no bitterness, no pepperiness and not much in the way of mouth-numbing. I think I'm immune to that effect now. I got a little woozy, a little lightheaded but no anxiety, and as the initial heady effects mellowed, my muscles felt nice and light. This is definitely a kava to enjoy on a weekend, listening to some good music, relaxing by the pool or in the backyard, maybe with some company who like to talk - but not too much - and no kids to watch! Traditional grind as compared to Aluball definitely makes a stronger brew. Good stuff, Paulie-Paul!

Tongan Family Reserve has a wonderful smooth effect, and is long-lasting. I am usually mellow for at least a few hours afterwards. I get a beautiful euphoric feeling, slightly floating and happy. The taste is good and goes down easily. It is my number one favorite kava. I highly recommend it.
